Moving up

Had lunch with a dear friend of mine today, and we were talking about the usual. Talking about how our faith waxes and wanes, and how purposeless it seems sometimes when we find ourselves second-guessing something that we thought we’d already accepted. Making peace with an idea only to realize that you don’t believe in it anymore. She then shared with me what her churchmate told her…That life is like a mountain we climb, and often we find our selves looking out at the same view. Just like how we question the same things over and over again, and feel like we are getting nowhere…But we are. We’re moving up… It’s a comforting thought which I really appreciate.

He said we go through times of consolation and desolation. Consolation is when things are flowing, and everything makes sense, and you feel connected, and you're aware that God is present, and has plans for you. Maybe even likes you a little bit. Desolation is the other thing. When you are…scared…and confused and alone and out of step. God retreats, and you're left with your own thoughts, and those thoughts are dark. There are answers there, he told me -- and strength.- Joan of Arcadia
